Baby Boomers Unite

Boomers grew up at a time of dramatic social change from 1946 - 1964. This workshop is designed specifically for them, focusing on job search issues, strategies, and the unique life experiences that make them who they are.

Statistics say training for a new career and changing your career is risky business. If you are thinking about a career change, we will show you how to lessen the risk. We will help you create a road map to navigate your way.

Already retrained, recertified or upgraded your skills for a new career and still not having luck getting your foot in the door? We will help you create a road map to navigate your way. (This workshop is designed for those who have completed the training necessary to qualify for the new occupation they are targeting.)

Please bring a copy of your most recent resume. Discover how to customize your resume and make it easy for prospective employers to pick you out of the crowd. Cover and thank you letter development included.

Waiver of UI Eligibility Session

No earlier than 2 - 3 weeks before the beginning of each semester, contact us to set up an appointment to complete the required forms and apply for a waiver from the Unemployment Insurance Agency (UIA). Visit our Unemployment/Register for Work webpage for more details.

Job Search Launch
Job Search Launch is designed to tell you how Troy Michigan Works can be the fuel to your job search engine as you navigate the uncertain universe of being unemployed. If you feel like you're lost in the cosmos of "looking for work", this session is for you! You will walk away with knowledge of how to use Michigan Works Agencies for your job search includng resources available at our Center.

Job Search Launch Schedule:

Every Friday from 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

*Due to the holiday, we will not be conducting the Job Search Launch
on Friday, May 24, 2013.

Note: Pre-registration is not required. Interested individuals must arrive by 9:45 am on the day of the event and check in at the reception desk to sign in.


Computer Basics

Troy Michigan Works is offering basic job search computer skills assistance. Topics include creating a yahoo email account, sending an email with a Word attachment, and Internet basics, as time permits. Space is limited to 12 participants for each session, therefore participants will be chosen on a first come, first serve basis. Check in at the reception desk to confirm your spot for the workshop on the day is it offered.

Thursday, May 16, 2013 from 8:30 am - 10:00 am

Pre-registration is required for most workshops, orientations and events. To register, click on the date you are interested in on the left hand column.

Most workshops are approximately two hours. Resume Writing and Interview Skills workshops are two sessions at two hours each. Networking Essentials is a 3 hour workshop. Workshops may be repeated and enrollment is on a first come/first serve basis.

If you are unable to attend your scheduled workshop, please contact the Center at 248-823-5101 to cancel your reservation.

*When the Troy School District is closed due to inclement weather, please call ahead to make sure the office is open and your workshop has not been cancelled.
