What is Facebook?
Facebook is a social media resource that helps people communicate with their friends, family, and coworkers. Individuals can create profiles, add photos, list personal interests, and include contact information in their profile. Facebook allows the sharing of information through social connections. People can also join interest groups and “like” pages to stay informed on current news in their group or industry. Joining Facebook is free so sign up today!

What is LinkedIn?
With over 60 million members, LinkedIn is probably the world’s largest social network designed for business people. People use LinkedIn to connect with past colleagues, friends, and classmates for the purpose of make business related connections. You can find, be introduced to, and collaborate with qualified professionals that you need to work with to accomplish your goals.
Basic subscription to LinkedIn is free and only requires that you set up your personal profile (about 15 minutes) to get started. Within the LinkedIn network, you can join specific groups. Groups are created for people with common interests, experience, affiliations, and goals. Through groups, you can stay in touch with organizations, schools, and companies you are and were a part of, network with professionals with similar interests and goals, and collaborate in a professional community online.
To join our LinkedIn group:
Go to LinkedIn and sign up or sign in. Once you are a LinkedIn member, go to the search button at the top of the screen, and select “Groups” from the drop down menu. Type in “Michigan Works Troy” in the search tab and hit enter. Click on the yellow “Join Group” button and you will be taken to a screen that will ask you to provide some additional information. Once you have completed the information, you will become a member of the group.
What is Twitter?
In a nutshell, Twitter is a messaging service and a way for one person or organization to communicate with others in 140-character blasts. Think of texting only over the Internet for anyone to see.
What do you do with Twitter?
You can send out messages, on whatever subject you like, to anyone who chooses to “follow” you. At the same time, you can “follow” others (friends, family members, Troy Michigan Works!, etc.) and read what is on their minds.
There is no cost to using Twitter and signing up will not fill your inbox with spam. So why not give it a try?
Here is how to get started:
- Open your Internet browser and head to Twitter
- Click on “Get started now”
- Complete the sign up form and click “Create my account”
