Troy Michigan Works! offers free career workshops to assist job seekers with career exploration, job search planning and other key factors involved when looking for employment.

Each class is approximately two hours with the exception of the Resume Writing, Interview Skills and Know Your Elevator Speech classes which are two sessions for two hours each.

Classes may be taken as often as desired. Enrollment is on a first come/first serve basis.

Once you register for a workshop, you are expected to attend. Resume Writing I & II

Resume Writing I: The average Internet job posting receives over 1500 resume responses. How does your resume stand out? Learn the tips and tricks to build a resume, cover letter, and thank you letter that really work!  (2 hour workshop) __ Resume Writing II: As time permits, this workshop will give the opportunity for a group critique with valuable feedback on your resume and job search letters. Know Your Elevator Speech I & II

Know Your Elevator Speech I: The elevator speech is your 30 second commercial that answers the question “Tell me about yourself”. Having a great elevator speech is a critical part of your job search success. Develop an effective elevator speech that makes you stand out in the crowd!  (2 hour workshop) _____ Know Your Elevator Speech II: An opportunity to take what you developed in Know Your Elevator Speech Session 1 and practice, modify or fine tune your elevator speech.  Moderator and class critiques will be conducted in this session.  Know Your Elevator Speech I is a required prerequisite. How can Internet sites like Monster, LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook, and JibberJobber, help you land your next job? What are the best sites to search for jobs? We will take the mystery out of social networking and show you how easy it is to use these free tools.  (2 hour workshop)

Green Jobs in a Green Economy

Just what are “green jobs” anyway? This workshop explores the future of green jobs in the green economy and offers tips on how to find your career path in the new green economy.  (2 hour workshop)

SCORE - "Could I...Should I, Start My Own Business" Workshop

SCORE, Service Corps of Retired Executives, is working with Michigan Works! to offer a FREE voucher to attend their “Could I…Should I, Start My Own Business” workshop. Without the voucher, the cost of the workshop is $10.00 per person for the class registration and materials. To receive a voucher, individuals must report in person to an Oakland County Michigan Works! Agency and indicate they are interested in attending the workshop. All individuals must have an active resume in the Michigan Talent Bank to receive a voucher.
